Facilities Management (FM) in the UK is the professional integration of people, places, and processes within the built environment. 

Its primary purpose is to ensure the safety, comfort, and efficiency of a business's physical assets while supporting the productivity of its core operations. 

FM is broadly categorized into two main service areas:

• Hard FM (Physical Structure): Relates to the physical fabric of the building and cannot be removed. Examples include mechanical and electrical maintenance, plumbing, fire safety systems, heating and ventilation (HVAC), and building fabric repairs. 

• Soft FM (Human & Operational): Relates to services that make the building comfortable and safe to use. Examples include cleaning, security, catering, grounds maintenance, waste management, and reception duties.
